Firefighters’ Movies in the Park:

The Pinellas Park firefighters host a free movie night every month in the England Brothers Bandshell Park. They raise money for their Benevolent Fund by selling hot dogs and hamburgers. Candy, popcorn, nachos and drinks are also for sale. It starts at 7 p.m. Saturday and The Lego Movie will begin at dark, about 8:30 p.m., at the park at 5010 81st Ave. N, Pinellas Park.

Kids of all ages can ride the miniature trains of Largo Central Railroad the first weekend of the month. 


From their site:

The Largo Central Railroad (LCRR), founded in 1991, was built and
is now maintained through the work and dedication of the LCRR club
members and through generous donations from the people of Largo,
Florida. We currently have approximately 1.2 miles of main line track
with numerous passing sidings running through beautifully landscaped
Largo Central Park. Public runs are held on the first full weekend of
each month. Second and fourth weekends are “FUN Run” weekends
for members and associate members.Third weekends are work weekends.
Fifth weekends are mini-meet weekends.  If you have any questions,
contact us at (727) 585-9835. Membership in the Largo Central is open
to anyone with interest in large-scale model railroading and the hobby
of live steam.

Weekly Programs

Preschool Reading Adventures 
Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m.
Beginning in September, we will be offering an additional Preschool Reading Adventures program on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m.!
This program is designed for children ages 3-5 years. The goal of this story time is to help children develop the early literacy skills that they will need for school. Programs may include stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays and crafts.

Read, Sing & Play Toddlertime
Tuesdays at 11 a.m.
This 20-30 minute program is designed for caring adults and their curious toddlers (ages 0 to 35 months). This program will encourage and strengthen the special bond between you and your toddler by sharing early learning activities such as reading age-appropriate books, singing engaging songs, and playing simple games together. 

Music in Motion
Wednesdays at 11 a.m.
Join us as we celebrate music and movement in this 20-30 minute program designed for children ages 2-5. We will sing, play instruments, and incorporate activities which promote moving along with the beat of music. 

Read, Learn, Imagine Family Storytime
Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
This 45 minute program is designed for young children and their caring adults. Together, we will engage in book sharing and interactive activities that are chosen to encourage early learning and fun imaginative play through a variety of songs, creative movement, and storytelling with lots of audience participation. The storytime may include exciting puppetry, active game play, selective video viewing, or age-appropriate crafting. Let’s Read, Learn, and Imagine @ the Library!

Sign Language Class
Thursdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.  For Ages 5-12

This is an American Sign Language course that includes Sign Language vocabulary, stories and crafts or activities for children. No Registration Required!

Homework Help
Mondays, beginning August 25th, 3:30 – 5:30
Having trouble with your homework? Need help writing an essay or guidance on your next school project? Then visit us at the library for our homework help sessions designed for elementary school students. The library’s teen volunteers will work one-on-one with students and help them with various subjects such as reading, writing, math, and science. No registration is required. Students are helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sensational Science Series
Tuesdays, Beginning September 2nd, 4-5 p.m.
Join us every Tuesday as we explore the wonderful of of science. Each week we will discover different scientific elements and perform hands-on experiments. Due to the complexity of some of the experiments, this program is designed for students in grades 2nd-5th. No registration required!

Wednesdays, beginning August 20th, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Discover the learning power of LEGOs! Children can practice their creative building and problem solving skills with the library’s collection of LEGOs. No Registration Required!

Tail Waggin’ Tutors 

3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on 2nd & 4th Thursdays of each month.  
Therapy Dogs International’s program encourages children to read by providing a non-judgemental listener and furry friend to read to. Sessions with the therapy dog last fifteen minutes. Parents’ permission is required. Children must be at least 5 years old and be able to read independently. Five and six year olds must be accompanied by an adult. Please visit the Children’s Desk for a permission slip and to schedule an appointment.

Origami Workshops with Virgil Manning

6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Programs are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month
All ages are welcome! Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult.The possibilities are endless! Come learn the art of paper folding. You will amaze yourself with just one piece of paper, no tools needed. Papers are provided. Registration is required and begins 2 weeks before each program.
